Eindhoven, Netherlands — 2024
Our EcoWave project envisions a climate-positive transformation of the VB Building and its surroundings. Currently underutilized as temporary student housing, the VB Building holds unused potential as a cultural and communal anchor point. By blending heritage preservation with innovative design, we aimed to create a vibrant, sustainable, and future-forward space.
Our redesign highlights dynamic connections between water systems, greenery, and circulation. These elements are seamlessly woven together to enhance environmental adaptability, improve spatial flow, and foster community engagement. Central to the vision is maintaining the VB Building's historical significance while adapting it for diverse functions that invite communal use and interaction. With EcoWave, the VB plot becomes more than just a space, it evolves into a thriving, interconnected ecosystem that embodies sustainability and inclusivity for generations to come.
In this group project of 7, I worked as an architect together with 2 fellow architects on timber apartment blocks, rowhousing and reorganising the VB Building monument. I especially focused on the design of the rowhousing and the facades of the timber apartment blocks. All renders were assigned to and executed by me. In the individual part of this project I focused on developing the timber apartment blocks into further detail.
What I learnt most in this project is how to work as an architect in a group, how important it is to speak your mind and always be able to explain your own vision.
